“Greetings my Northern friends.” Ani was surprised at the wink he aimed at her. “I, Professor Jaikeer Bricka, am honored to meet the prophesied Blood and Balance. You don’t look too poorly for being one thousand years old.” The driver winked at her again.

Ani realized that they were all staring openmouthed at him. How much had Uncle Reslo told them? A glance at her uncle showed that he was also stunned to silence.

“We have much to show you and many questions. Please, get in. Professor Tondon is anxious to meet you.” He opened the rear door and held out a hand to Ani. She took it, and he pulled her close enough to whisper in her ear as she stepped past him and in to the vehicle. “Your uncle told us you are The Blood and he needs to find a way to get you to your people. If what we’ve found so far is fact, there may be alien technology hidden further into the caves that will help you and your uncle. We don’t know yet, but we are hopeful.”

Before she could think of anything to say in response, Professor Bricka had practically pushed her uncle, Taryn, and Renloret into their seats and shut the door. He was chuckling as he slid into the driver’s seat.

Ani leaned toward her uncle. “Is he sane?”

Reslo was staring at the back of the archeologist’s head. “I thought he was.”
